No bill movement yet.

Senator Wise’s antievolution bill (SB 2396) had been assigned to the regular K-12 education committee and the appropriations K-12 committee. I’ve been checking the schedules for these two committees and it looks like 2396 is not on the docket for either committee this week. Good news, but there’s still a long way to go. We can only hope this Florida bill meets the same fatal fate Iowa’s bill did.

House File 183, the so-called Evolution Academic Freedom Act, died in committee in the Iowa House of Representatives on March 13, 2009.

  1. James F says:

    Brandon,

Does it have to pass both committees, and if so, does it pass one and then get referred to the next, or is it independent consideration?

  2. Brandon Haught says:

The committees consider the bill independently.

I believe it must pass in both committees, but I don’t know that for certain.

  3. PatrickHenry says:

Ronda Storms’ bill was in two Senate committees last year, and it passed both. I don’t know what would happen if one refused to approve it.

  4. Calilasseia says:

Why don’t we call these bills precisely what they are?

Namely Trojan horses for the forcing of mythology and magic into science classes?

Gather together representatives on the reality-based side and tell them to put forward the following message:

“We’ll vote for your bill on one condition – that you rename it the Forcing Mythology And Magic Into Science Classes Act”.
