Here is a nice guest commentary published in the Naples Daily News: The bicentennial of 2 great men: the emancipator and the evolutionist. Expect some online comments at the newspaper’s site, and future letters to the editor in response, though.
To date, despite the incredible lobbying and legal challenging of those creationists who have pushed for the teaching of some alternative to biologic evolution in public schools, no evidence has been uncovered that indicates the basics of Darwin’s theory are not factual. Quite the contrary, even the believers in so-called creation science or intelligent design have yet to come up with any significant evidence of a supernatural cause for the origin of species that can stand up to the standards of the scientific method, allowing the results to be published in established peer-reviewed scientific journals. All they continue to do is claim since everything about biologic evolution is not completely understood, the only alternative is some type of supernatural process must have done it.
Misrepresentation of biologic evolution denies science students the basic level of scientific literacy necessary for them and our country to be able to compete in a more competitive world.
Very nice. 🙂
Although these purveyors of ignorance and superstition focus intently on biology, presumably because of questions relating to human origins/evolution, they clearly lack a fundamental understanding of the scientific process and rational inquiry as a whole.
They’re just not controlling the teaching of biology – they’re impeding the spread of knowledge at many levels.
Good read!
