Members of the Florida Citizens for Science will be speaking this coming Friday 24 October at the Florida Association of Science Teachers annual conference, taking place at the Double Tree Hotel and Convention Center in Orlando.
Along with several others from “PROMISE”, Dave Campbell will be speaking on a statewide initiative to provide personal development programs for teachers, keyed to the new Sunshine State Standards.
Mary Bahr and Debra Walker will present, “The Top Ten Myths about Evolution Education”, this presentation outlines the most common misconceptions about evolution and develops refutations drawing on current scientific research.
Kathy Savage, Pete Dunkelberg and Jonathan Smith offer a break out meeting entitled “Why Teaching Evolution is Essential,” clarifying why the teaching of evolution is integral to the new science standards and why it displays discerning pedagogy.
I think it’s great to see the members of FCS taking part in this conference and continually working for the good of science education in the state of Florida
I applaud the FCS, as usual! May I recommend an excellent editorial recently written by the 21st Century Science Coalition here.
