A rockin’ scientist on TV

Now this sounds like one very interesting profile of a local scientist:

She is a rock performer, a songwriter, a teacher and a scientist. At 32, Pardis Sabeti, who grew up in Orlando, leads a fascinating life.

PBS’ Nova scienceNow profiles geneticist Sabeti at 9 tonight on WMFE-Channel 24. Her parents fled the Iranian revolution and lived around the United States before settling in Orlando, where they still live. She decided to study medicine after her father was in a serious car accident.

Sabeti graduated from MIT and earned her graduate degree from Harvard. She made a major breakthrough in explaining how advantageous mutations spread in natural selection. These days, she is seeking answers in the fight against malaria.

Here is the Nova scienceNOW site. And here is a little more about Sabeti, and here, and here.
