Not wasting valuable time

I guess some legislators do understand that arguing about settled science is a time sink. How refreshing. From an interview with Rep. John Legg, chairman of the House PreK-12 Policy committee and vice chairman of PreK-12 Appropriations:

Some of the issues dealing with the evolution bills and the inspirational prayers … I didn’t want to bottle up time, and neither did our committee. In talking with members, it wouldn’t have gone anywhere on the floor, it wouldn’t have gone anywhere in the Senate. And we didn’t want to spend a lot of time, at least in Pre-K-12 Policy debating the issues that had very little merit to pass or even to set up for next year. At least the Mayfield bill dealing with science standards, the McBurney bill dealing with civics and even the Fresen bill dealing with the algebra standards, those are salient dialogue policy issues that we are going to have to grapple with, whether it’s this year or next year. The standards are being raised. … Even President Obama in his March 10 speech said he wanted to do a race to the top. That question is what we wanted to spend our time with. And the inspirational message, the evolution bill, simply didn’t fit in that criteria, at least for our committee.

  1. DI says:

It’s interesting that “settled science” is a refuge for those who want no alternate theory that reveals all the flaws of an out dated hypothesis.

  2. rubble says:

It’s interesting that crank science is a refuge for those who have no alternative theory, let alone understand the existing accepted theories within science.

  3. Karl says:

You know, by all means, when the DI does come up with an actual alternative theory to evolution that would be considered scientifically valid without destroying the very definition and methods of the scientific process, please do let us and the world know. Until then, you know where you can take YOUR hypothesis and shove it.

  4. Jonathan Smith says:

And the alternative scientific theories to evolution are ########(sound of crickets chirruping) yes that’s right DI zero, next question?

  5. DI says:

Crank ? shove it ? sound of crickets ? Very professional ! Indeed ! I guess mannered speech cannot be derived from hate filled hearts. Insulting behavior belongs to children who have neglectful parents. Pity on you.

  6. PatrickHenry says:

Looks like another candidate for the ol’ spam bucket.

  7. Karl says:

Oh, so it’s all fine and dandy for you to make a (baseless) mockery of a well-established and repeatedly verified scientific theory. Are we suppose to give you a pass on that? Both you and I know that your original post was designed to rile us up and presumably generate the sarcasm and insults which feed your persecution complex, sense of righteous self satisfaction, arrogance, etc. The only hate here is the one fostered by your intolerant religious views, and like evolution theory, there’s a pretty extensive paper trail to back up this assertion.

  8. Jonathan Smith says:

Ok DI, I apologise for not considering your viewpoint in a serious manner. So now, go ahead and tell us all the alternative scientific theories to evolution. Take your time, I won’t rush you, when ever you are ready.

  9. PatrickHenry says:

DI has been bucketed. If you really want to see his recent comments, I can post them here, but I humbly suggest that we’re better off without such clutter. I’ll leave it up to you.

  10. Karl says:

Well, that depends. Is it full of the usual smugness, accusations of godless heathenism, and various judgmental social commentary about our supposed lifestyle choices which we’ve all come to expect and love or was there an actual concise counterargument that we could debate? As tempting as it is, the former need not be considered…

  11. Jonathan Smith says:

Thanks PatirickHenry,go ahead and flush DI’s diatribe down the toilet of non scientific mindless rantings were it belongs.

  12. PatrickHenry says:

It’s done. I thought I should provide a bit of transparency. I try not to be reckless in the use of my minimal powers. But I know crazy when I see it.
