Busy, busy, busy

Sorry about the lack of posts lately. Been very busy. NCSE’s Genie Scott is coming to Florida tonight and Florida Citizens for Science is co-sponsoring her visit. She’ll be giving a presentation at a Florida Association of Science Supervisors meeting tomorrow, and I will then give a presentation right after hers. So, I’m doing last minute tweaks to my materials; I have quite an act to follow, sheesh! My presentation will be based on my Florida’s Greatest Menace series, but will be going all the way through from 1923 to present day. That means those lucky science supervisors get a taste of what’s still to come in my written series.

After spending the morning with FASS, we will head over to Oviedo High School where Florida Citizens for Science board member Kathy Savage is a teacher and regularly hosts a high school version of the popular science cafes. Kathy can barely contain her excitement at having Genie talk at their final science cafe of the school year.

On an unrelated note, I was very busy at work yesterday. Our narcotics folks found a crazy underground marijuana growing operation. It was literally underground. Check out my news release, photos and video.

  1. Jeff Handy says:

That grower video really was crazy. I have to wonder why they think they can get away with that kind of thing for long. The electric being used there looked pretty extensive. You would think the electric usage alone would raise red flags.

I’ve been to a number of marijuana grow operations. I don’t know the details, but somehow these folks tap into the electricity in such way that they are essentially stealing it. I think they route the juice around the meter.
