Teacher spotlight

I like the Orlando Sentinel’s teacher spotlight feature. It gives our teachers that little bit of motivating recognition in the community. Middle school science teacher Jeremy Blinn is the most recent honoree.

Reason for teaching: Since was a kid, I always had the patience to work with others. Becoming a teacher was a natural fit. I even tested this out by leaving teaching in 2000 to try some other things. I ultimately discovered that I missed the profession and the students very much. I belong in the classroom working with students every day.

Greatest moment as a teacher: I went through a lesson about the digestive system with an eighth-grade class in Japan. Even though we didn’t speak the same language, I broke that barrier with diagramming on the chalkboard, and then I taught them the English word for each part of the system. The reason I got to go to Japan was because of an organization called the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program
