Congrats to Florida’s young scientists

Best of luck to some of our brightest minds heading for competition in Washington D.C.!

Two Brevard County students were among 40 national finalists who recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to compete in the Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge and vie for the title of “Top Young Scientist of the Year.”

Collin Northcott McAliley, an eighth-grader at Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High, and Almas Ugurgizi Abdulla, a ninth-grader at Palm Bay High, were chosen based on their written essays about science fair projects each presented during Brevard County’s science fair competition earlier this year.

In addition to the two finalists, three local ninth-graders were among the 400 semifinalists. They are: Malik Rahman of Edgewood Jr./Sr. High, Daniel Schra of Merritt Island High and Forrest Berndt of Rockledge High.
