There is a lot of competition for research funding when it comes to the ocean waters lapping at Florida’s shores. And I believe it can be inferred that there are exciting careers to be had for any future scientists in our classrooms. Teachers, print out this story and post it somewhere in the classroom. Marine scientists hope to develop an ocean observation system — including monitors far at sea and along the Florida coast — to measure the effects of global warming and detect sources of pollution. Some researchers already are exploiting the seas for a renewable energy source and maybe even a cure for cancer.
