{"id":999,"date":"2009-04-14T12:54:18","date_gmt":"2009-04-14T16:54:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flascience.org\/wp\/?p=999"},"modified":"2009-05-31T19:37:05","modified_gmt":"2009-05-31T23:37:05","slug":"funding-cuts-are-hurting-science-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flascience.org\/?p=999","title":{"rendered":"Funding Cuts are Hurting Science Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It seems at the moment,\u00c2\u00a0no matter where\u00c2\u00a0you look, funds for science education are being drastically reduce or cut all together.\u00c2\u00a0Universities in particular seem to be ravaged\u00c2\u00a0with arbitrary slashing of funding for science departments. I spent yesterday at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arizona.edu\/\">University of Arizona&#8217;s<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0Physics lab where they are making great progress into the research of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Higgs_boson\"><strong>Higgs boson<\/strong> (nicknamed the <strong>God particle<\/strong>), <\/a>Unfortunatly they are facing drastic &#8220;cut backs&#8221; which will seriously effect their research.<\/p>\n<p>According to Professor\u00c2\u00a0Paul Cottle at FSU, the cut backs there are going to be devastating and even include science teacher education programs, which will obviously effect the quality of science teachers in Florida.
