{"id":963,"date":"2009-03-20T12:21:57","date_gmt":"2009-03-20T16:21:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flascience.org\/wp\/?p=963"},"modified":"2009-04-30T19:35:49","modified_gmt":"2009-04-30T23:35:49","slug":"science-will-be-honored","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flascience.org\/?p=963","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Science will be honored.&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW ORLEANS (AP) \u00e2\u20ac\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/hostednews\/ap\/article\/ALeqM5ibv6dcxUaulBwpuegoJxoZI3rQTwD971QTMG0\">Education Secretary Arne Duncan said Friday <\/a>he wants to launch a &#8220;new era&#8221; of science education in the United States, one that encourages students to ask tough, challenging questions and brings more specially trained science and math teachers into the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>Duncan told the National Science Teachers Association during a visit to New Orleans that President Barack Obama sees a need for inventors and engineers along with poets and scholars and &#8220;will not allow scientific research to be held hostage to a political agenda.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Whether it&#8217;s global warming, evolution or stem cell research, science will be honored.
