The Orlando Sentinal education blog, School Zone, reports that the bill\u00c2\u00a0proposing to\u00c2\u00a0do away with the 11th grade science FCAT and replace it with end of course exams got its first nod of approval<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Florida’s high school students would be required to take biology 1 and pass a state final exam under a bill that got a first, favorable vote in a House committee earlier this week. The FCAT’s 11th-grade science exam would be phased out as the new biology exam was phased in.<\/p>\n

The bill, CS 543<\/a>, has the support of the Florida Department of Education, which eventually wants to see a fleet of end-of-course tests required in state high schools.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
