{"id":834,"date":"2008-12-30T06:48:15","date_gmt":"2008-12-30T11:48:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flascience.org\/wp\/?p=834"},"modified":"2009-01-31T10:00:27","modified_gmt":"2009-01-31T15:00:27","slug":"teaching-science-with-one-hand-tied-behind-your-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flascience.org\/?p=834","title":{"rendered":"Teaching science with one hand tied behind your back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www2.highlandstoday.com\/content\/2008\/dec\/30\/la-science-labs-need-more-equipment-teachers-say\/\">Science Labs Need More Equipment, Teachers Say<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>SEBRING &#8211; Students exploring the cellular world of plants and animals at Hill-Gustat Middle School are sharing a limited number of older microscopes and equipment for their scientific studies.<\/p>\n<p>With about 15 microscopes for 660 students, science teacher Amy Bubb said, &#8220;obviously we are a little short.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>District wide, teachers are trying to teach students using hands-on experience, Science Curriculum Specialist Dorothea Strickland said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s hard to do that if you don&#8217;t have even the basics,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>A lot of the science equipment is expensive, making it difficult to find adequate funding, especially these days, she said.
