{"id":775,"date":"2008-11-07T22:16:28","date_gmt":"2008-11-08T02:16:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flascience.org\/wp\/?p=775"},"modified":"2008-12-29T21:59:16","modified_gmt":"2008-12-30T02:59:16","slug":"2008-outstanding-middle-school-science-teacher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flascience.org\/?p=775","title":{"rendered":"2008 Outstanding Middle School Science Teacher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Florida Association of Science Teachers recently announced that Largo Middle School (Pinellas County) teacher Leslie Pohley is the state\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fldoe.org\/SuccessStories\/2008\/11-07.asp\">2008 Outstanding Middle School Science Teacher<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sptimes.com\/2007\/12\/03\/State\/Florida_science_stand.shtml\">Here&#8217;s her picture<\/a> in the St. Petersburg Times back in December 2007.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>On a platform 30 feet above the ground, Leslie Pohley and two-dozen eighth-graders gazed into a 17,000-gallon tank of roiling wastewater.<\/p>\n<p>Most people would have seen a big vat of nasty. But Pohley, a 30-year veteran at Largo Middle School, saw a teachable moment.<\/p>\n<p>Here, at the South Cross Bayou Water Reclamation Center in unincorporated Pinellas County, she prodded her students into thinking: Where does this mess come from? Where does it go?
