{"id":731,"date":"2006-01-30T09:18:24","date_gmt":"2006-01-30T13:18:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flascience.org\/wp\/?p=731"},"modified":"2008-12-09T17:28:15","modified_gmt":"2008-12-09T22:28:15","slug":"teachers-opt-for-texts-without-intelligent-design","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flascience.org\/?p=731","title":{"rendered":"Teachers Opt For Texts Without Intelligent Design"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.tbo.com\/news\/metro\/MGB0SN4V0JE.html\">Teachers Opt For Texts Without Intelligent Design<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t go looking for any mention of intelligent design in high school biology textbooks in Hillsborough County.<\/p>\n<p>When science teachers voted to adopt new textbooks last week, they could have chosen a book that included a brief reference to the belief that life is so complex that some guiding intelligence must be behind it.<\/p>\n<p>The teachers opted for a different book, though, one that doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t touch on intelligent design.<\/p>\n<p>Nancy Marsh, high school science supervisor for the Hillsborough County School District, said teachers based their decision on which book would best meet state science standards and prepare students for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test.<\/p>\n<p>That one potential textbook &#8211; \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Biology: Dynamics of Life\u00e2\u20ac\u009d published by Glencoe\/McGraw-Hill &#8211; included a reference to intelligent design was irrelevant.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153That topic did not come up in any of our discussions,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Marsh said.<\/p>\n<p>Science supervisors in Pasco and Pinellas counties don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t think intelligent design will become an issue for them either when they choose their science textbooks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re going to find the best books for Pasco County,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Kim Davis, who oversees that district\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s science curriculum. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not foreseeing any issues.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Teachers Opt For Texts Without Intelligent Design Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t go looking for any mention of intelligent design in high school biology textbooks in Hillsborough County.
