{"id":651,"date":"2008-07-16T12:33:30","date_gmt":"2008-07-16T16:33:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flascience.org\/wp\/?p=651"},"modified":"2008-08-30T10:41:08","modified_gmt":"2008-08-30T14:41:08","slug":"a-new-study-of-extinct-flying-reptiles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flascience.org\/?p=651","title":{"rendered":"A new study of extinct flying reptiles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new study of extinct flying reptiles called kuehneosaurs, has shown that of the of the two genera found in Britain, Kuehneosuchus was a glider while Kuehneosaurus, with much shorter &#8220;wings,&#8221; was a parachutist. <span id=\"intelliTXT\">Archaeopteryx is famous as the world&#8217;s oldest bird, but reptiles were flying about some 50 million years earlier than that (225 million years ago), even before large dinosaurs roamed the Earth. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Koen Stein, who did the work while a student studying for an MSc in palaeobiology at Bristol University, has shown that of the of the two genera found in Britain, Kuehneosuchus was a glider (it has elongate &#8216;wings&#8217;), while Kuehneosaurus, with much shorter &#8216;wings&#8217;, was a parachutist.
