{"id":2811,"date":"2017-07-08T16:40:19","date_gmt":"2017-07-08T20:40:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flascience.org\/wp\/?p=2811"},"modified":"2017-07-08T16:40:19","modified_gmt":"2017-07-08T20:40:19","slug":"announcement-florida-citizens-for-science-meeting-july-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flascience.org\/?p=2811","title":{"rendered":"Announcement: Florida Citizens for Science meeting July 15"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Florida Citizens for Science will hold an interim meeting to discuss the many science education developments since we held our regular annual meeting back in January.<\/p>\n<p>Date: July 15 (Saturday)<br \/>\nTime: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.<br \/>\nPlace: Room 2702 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Marshall+Student+Center\/@28.063945,-82.413396,15z\/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x86447560cad5d255!8m2!3d28.063945!4d-82.413396\">USF Marshall Student Center<\/a>, 4103 Cedar Circle, Tampa, Florida 33620<\/p>\n<p>The event announcement is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/1821818661167080\/?acontext=%7B%22source%22%3A5%2C%22page_id_source%22%3A167594804811%2C%22action_history%22%3A[%7B%22surface%22%3A%22page%22%2C%22mechanism%22%3A%22main_list%22%2C%22extra_data%22%3A%22%7B%5C%22page_id%5C%22%3A167594804811%2C%5C%22tour_id%5C%22%3Anull%7D%22%7D]%2C%22has_source%22%3Atrue%7D\">also on Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We will have a structured &#8220;open forum&#8221; meeting to discuss the following:<br \/>\n**Seeking members willing to serve on the Florida Citizens for Science Board of Directors, willing to form and serve on committees, and willing to take on other active roles.<br \/>\n**What actions to take in response to new Instructional Materials law.<br \/>\n**What actions to take in response to new Religious Liberties in Schools law.<br \/>\n**What actions to take when the Florida Department of Education starts the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fldoe.org\/academics\/standards\/instructional-materials\/\">science textbook review\/adoption process<\/a>.<br \/>\n**What actions to take in response to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flascience.org\/wp\/?p=2771\">consistently poor results on annual state science assessments<\/a>.<br \/>\n**Guage interest in reinstating our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flascience.org\/wp\/?p=1123\">annual fundraising campaign for science supplies<\/a> requested by Florida teachers on Donors Choose.<\/p>\n<p>We will attempt to make the meeting accessible remotely via Skype, Google Hangouts or some other video conferencing method. If anyone wishes to assist in setting this up, please let us know.<\/p>\n<p>We will ask all participants to stay on topic. We will politely yet firmly cut off comments\/discussion that ramble or get off topic.
