Math is an important component of science, so it makes sense to stay in tune with the revisions being made to Florida’s math standards<\/a>. From the Orlando Sentinel education blog<\/a>:<\/p>\n

The new standards — to be discussed today at the State Board of Education meeting — are to be “narrower and deeper” in kindergarten to eighth grade. In practical terms, that means they drastically reduce the number of “grade level expectations” or benchmarks taught at each grade. Fourth-grade teachers now have 89 benchmarks to cover. If the new standards are adopted, they’ll have just 22. The goal is that students will master a few “big ideas” really well.<\/p>\n

For high schools, the new standards are to be “more specific and concise,” and students are to get the kind of instruction that will let them take AP and IB courses.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
