We were actually rooting for another university to get the one year grant, but you certainly can&#8217;t always win when politics are involved.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><font class=\"story\"> TALLAHASSEE, Fla. &#8211; A Nobel laureate will head a new state center that Gov. Charlie Crist announced Wednesday to improve math, science and technology teaching in Florida&#8217;s public schools.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font class=\"story\" \/> <font class=\"story\">Sir Harold Kroto, co-recipient of the 1996 Nobel Prize in chemistry, will lead the Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at Florida State University. Kroto is a chemistry professor at Florida State.<\/font><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><font class=\"story\">The center was created in response to lagging student performance in math and science and competition from other nations in those fields.
