{"id":1263,"date":"2011-03-10T21:01:40","date_gmt":"2011-03-11T01:01:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flascience.org\/wp\/?p=1263"},"modified":"2011-03-10T21:01:40","modified_gmt":"2011-03-11T01:01:40","slug":"another-paper-critical-of-critical-analysis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flascience.org\/?p=1263","title":{"rendered":"Another paper critical of critical analysis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Palm Beach Post columnist Frank Cerabino compares Florida to Kentucky: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.palmbeachpost.com\/news\/schools\/cerabino-state-should-at-least-profit-from-its-1312478.html\">State should at least profit from its ignorance<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Maybe it&#8217;s time for Florida to cash in on its vast reservoir of ignorance.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s what Kentucky is doing.<\/p>\n<p>Kentucky&#8217;s giving $37 million in tax breaks to a theme park run by a religious organization that teaches that the Earth is 6,000 years old and was created in six days.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Ark Encounter&#8221; theme park, which features a giant Noah&#8217;s Ark, is being built by a Christian ministry called Answers in Genesis, which also runs the nearby Creation Museum, a place where tourists can see dinosaurs with riding saddles and attend lectures on that crackpot philosophy masquerading as science, something better known as evolution.<\/p>\n<p>Shouldn&#8217;t Florida have this? At least we&#8217;d be creating jobs and skimming tax revenue from all this pre-Enlightenment nuttiness.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The bill, sponsored by Sen. Steve Wise, R-Jacksonville, would change the way evolution is taught by requiring public school teachers to also present a &#8220;critical analysis of the scientific theory of evolution.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wise, an evolution critic who serves as chairman of the Senate Education Pre-K-12 Committee, would be better off channeling his religious zeal into a Garden of Eden flume ride (Look out for that snake!).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Palm Beach Post columnist Frank Cerabino compares Florida to Kentucky: &#8220;State should at least profit from its ignorance.&#8221; Maybe it&#8217;s time for Florida to cash in on its vast reservoir of ignorance.
