{"id":1214,"date":"2010-08-09T16:07:34","date_gmt":"2010-08-09T20:07:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flascience.org\/wp\/?p=1214"},"modified":"2010-08-09T16:07:34","modified_gmt":"2010-08-09T20:07:34","slug":"details-on-pasco-school-board-races","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flascience.org\/?p=1214","title":{"rendered":"Details on Pasco school board races"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a &#8220;know your candidates&#8221; feature at the St. Petersburg Times website, school board candidates were asked several questions, one of them being: &#8220;Should schools teach creationism in science?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/news\/politics\/kyc\/pasco-county-school-board-district-3-candidates\/1114135\">District 3 candidates<\/a> said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Cynthia Armstrong<br \/>\n&#8220;I do not believe that creationism has a place in the science curriculum.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mike Ryan<br \/>\n&#8220;I&#8217;m for teaching evolutionary theory and I&#8217;m for teaching intelligent design.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sallie Skipper<br \/>\n&#8220;I am a devout Christian but I believe in evolution.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Anthony Terranova<br \/>\nTell students the idea exists, but do not teach religion in school.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/news\/politics\/kyc\/pasco-county-school-board-district-4-candidates\/1114134\">District 4 candidates<\/a> said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Alison Crumbley<br \/>\n&#8220;Religion does not belong in a public school classroom.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Billie Ann Kaleel<br \/>\n&#8220;I don&#8217;t have a stand on those issues at all.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Steven Kanakis<br \/>\n&#8220;Teaching of creationism is I think better left to churches.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Karen King<br \/>\nNo. &#8220;I do not think we should impose it on other people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>John Tracy<br \/>\n&#8220;I believe that a student should have a choice. \u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 For students going in as creationists, if they don&#8217;t want to study evolution, there should be other options for them.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s nice to see that question asked point blank and enlightening to read the responses.
