{"id":1050,"date":"2009-05-28T13:52:50","date_gmt":"2009-05-28T17:52:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flascience.org\/wp\/?p=1050"},"modified":"2009-06-27T13:17:09","modified_gmt":"2009-06-27T17:17:09","slug":"opposing-faiths-clash-over-evolution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flascience.org\/?p=1050","title":{"rendered":"Opposing Faiths Clash over Evolution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"infuse\">The Discovery Institute \u00e2\u20ac\u201c the Seattle-based headquarters of the intelligent design movement \u00e2\u20ac\u201c has just launched a new website, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithandevolution.org\/\" target=\"ns\">Faith and Evolution<\/a>, which asks, can one be a Christian and accept <a class=\"infusionLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/topic\/evolution\">evolution<\/a>? The answer, as far as the Discovery Institute is concerned, is a resounding: No.<\/p>\n<p class=\"infuse\">The new website appears to be a response to the recent launch of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biologos.org\/\" target=\"ns\">BioLogos Foundation<\/a>, the brainchild of geneticist Francis Collins, former head of the Human Genome Project and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/features\/health\/la-na-nih-collins23-2009may23,0,5889122.story\" target=\"ns\">rumoured<\/a> Obama appointee-to-be for head of the National Institutes of Health. Along with &#8220;a team of scientists who believe in God&#8221; and some cash from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.templeton.org\/\" target=\"ns\">Templeton Foundation<\/a>, Collins, an evangelical Christian who is also a staunch proponent of evolution, is on a crusade to convince believers that faith and science need not be at odds.
