{"id":1029,"date":"2009-05-08T21:48:52","date_gmt":"2009-05-09T01:48:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flascience.org\/wp\/?p=1029"},"modified":"2009-06-27T13:43:48","modified_gmt":"2009-06-27T17:43:48","slug":"2009-fass-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flascience.org\/?p=1029","title":{"rendered":"2009 FASS Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Genie Scott the director of <a href=\"http:\/\/ncseweb.org\/\">NCSE<\/a> spoke with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fass.cecs.ucf.edu\/\">Science Supervisors<\/a> on April 7, 2009.\u00c2\u00a0 She did a really great job. The discussion centered around the issues of evolution and creationism and how to deal with objections to new science standards on evolution.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Brandon Haught from FCS then gave a talk based on his Florida&#8217;s Greatest Menace series on the FCS blog. This talk described the history of creationism here in Florida.\u00c2\u00a0 It was excellent, informative and in places very humorous. We received many great comments on both talks,the supervisors seemed to really appreciate both of\u00c2\u00a0them.<br \/>\nLater during lunch,\u00c2\u00a0Joe Wolf (FCS President) and Brandon received their NCSE &#8220;Friends of Darwin&#8221; award bestowed very appropriately by Genie Scott.<\/p>\n<p>In the afternoon <a href=\"http:\/\/ncseweb.org\/about\/speakers#scott\">Dr. Scott<\/a> spoke to the Cafi Scientific run by FCS board member Kathy Savage. Kathy has the Cafi for her students at the school where she teaches chemistry.\u00c2\u00a0 Dr. Scott spoke for a few minutes and then answered questions from the students.
