Darwin Day

Darwin Day is coming up. You can check out the list for possible events near you. Several churches appear to be participating the Evolution Sunday project.

There’s quite a celebration planned at Flamingo Gardens for anyone who’s interested.

Come join us in celebrating the birthday of Charles Darwin and his great discovery of evolution by natural selection.  There will be movies, lectures, Q and A sessions and of course … birthday cake.  And what better place than a zoo!  Flamingo Gardens is 60 acres of native and exotic plants, champion trees, tropical gardens, Florida wildlife and wetlands aviary.   See, first hand, Darwin’s explanation for the varieties of life and why they are so different yet similar.

The Florida Museum of Natural History will be showing the film Flock of Dodos.

The Florida Museum is sponsoring a screening of the film “Flock of Dodos: The Evolution-Intelligent Design Circus” at 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art in the University of Florida Cultural Plaza. Admission is free but tickets are required. For more information or to reserve tickets, call (352) 846-2000, ext. 275.

A panel discussion follows the screening, including Frederick Gregory of the UF Department of History and Bruce McFadden, Florida Museum vertebrate paleontology curator.
