Budget cuts at schools across Florida are ugly! I just saw this tidbit from Broward County: “Some schools had already eliminated science lab classes in a round of budget cuts last year.” What the hell?!?!

City and county governments across Florida are all in severe cutback mode, due to a combination of factors including the Bush-Cheney-Greenspan-Bernanke-et al economic crisis shredding property tax rolls and the Marco Rubio tax cuts tying the hands of municipalities attempting to recover monetary balance (and not coincidentally weakening whatever controls they may have had over real estate developers).
Please note the partisan influences at work here – including the embarrassing ineffectuality of the “opposition” party – and it will hardly be surprising that science education is part of the collateral damage.
Pink slips are flying for teachers and other employees.

A vote happens next Tuesday in Broward for budget, to reduce staff, and how to handle cuts. If my child’s science gets cut any further I’ll have to start offering science tutoring to kids. At least Coral Springs has a great summer science program!!!
