Public meetings about draft science standards

The Orlando Sentinel blog (from previous post) had mentioned a “town meeting” date for public input concerning the new draft of Florida’s science standards (click on the “Our Science Standards” category if you need to catch up on what is going on). I had a tough time trying to find where these town meeting dates are mentioned by the Department of Education. Finally, I was pointed toward a PowerPoint presentation on this web page. Go to the presentation from October 26, 2007. On slide 40 it says:

  • Leon County – Nov. 7, 5:30 to 7 PM – State Library – RA Gray Building
  • Orange County – Nov. 15, 5:30 to 7 PM – Jones High School
  • Others (TBD): Broward, Duval, and Hillsborough

If you’re interested in voicing your opinion, call ahead to the place where the presentation is supposed to take place to make sure it’s still scheduled, and then show up.

I find it odd that these town hall meetings are not more widely publicized.
