The Cambridge University Library recently made available online Charles Darwin’s wife’s diaries, offering a new look into the couple’s life. I browsed the diaries and found a lot of entries about baby weights and “visited so-n-so.” Several pages were scribbled on, like a child had gotten hold of them. In places the writing is hard to make out, and there are plenty of funny quirks such as upside down entries and things like: April 15, 1840 “Much flatulence, had an egg and toast this morning.”
